Thanks to You, Our Wellness Support Helps Students Succeed This Fall

Dear Reader,

As our students settle into their fall semester and prepare for midterms, I wanted to share just how much your generous donations have impacted their journey. Because of your support, our students are heading to college and law school with the confidence and resources they need to succeed.

Your contributions have allowed us to strengthen the support we provide to these bright scholars, ensuring they have the guidance they need every step of the way.

Introducing LoVetta Jenkins and Our New Outreach and Wellness Program

With your continued generosity, we’re thrilled to have established our new Outreach and Wellness program, led by LoVetta Jenkins. Some of you may recognize LoVetta from our podcast, but she’s now taking on an even more impactful role at Barrier Breakers®.

As a non-traditional college graduate and single mom, LoVetta knows firsthand the challenges our students face. Through our Outreach and Wellness Program, we provide:

  • Personal check-ins (phone calls and texts) each semester of school (college or law school)
  • Geographic visits and meet-ups to foster community with our students
  • Study resources, support, and thoughtful notes during exams and holidays—small gestures that remind them they’re not alone in their journey.
  • Career readiness resources, webinars with employers, and internship support
  • Emotional support and mentorship

Making Sure Our Students Have the Resources They Need

Barrier Breakers® Emergency Fund

We have also started laying the groundwork for the Barrier Breakers® Emergency Fund. Our students are so passionate about pursuing higher education and their careers, but often they need additional support to overcome the barriers in their education. We are proud to support our undocumented students who need financial support with test prep and testing fees, our students who need help navigating Medicaid and healthcare expenses, our single moms who run into emergencies that threaten to derail their education, and everything in between. As we increase our support through the Outreach and Wellness program, we become more aware of our students' wraparound needs on the path to their higher education. Thanks to your generous support, we can provide support at Barrier Breakers® to these students when they need it the most.
